Script Breakdown: Turn Your Script into a Shot-by-Shot Storyboard
Upload a script, let AI extract characters and shots, then review and fine-tune every scene before moving into generation.
Script Breakdown turns a raw script into a structured shot-by-shot table that lives on your canvas. It is designed for the step between "we know the story" and "we are ready to frame every shot."
Where to find it
Add a Script Breakdown node from the Add Node menu on the main canvas. Paste or upload a script, and the node breaks it into characters, scenes, and shots automatically.
The node works with any narrative text — a short film script, a dialogue scene, or a sequence of narrative descriptions. The AI extracts scene headings, character names, appearances, and shot-level details.
Character management
The character table lists every character the AI found in the script. Each row shows:
- ID — auto-assigned
- Name — click to edit
- Appearance — click to edit
- Image — optional reference photo
For character images, click the image cell to upload, browse history, or pick from your asset library. Setting a reference image early helps keep character appearance consistent across shots.
Editing a character name or appearance updates the reference everywhere — including the shot tables and card views that display character information.
Scene and shot table
Below the characters, each scene appears as a separate table with its own shot rows. The columns adapt to your data — columns that have no values across all shots are hidden automatically.
Editable columns include:
- Plot description — what happens in the shot
- Shot size — close-up, medium, wide, etc.
- Emotion — the dominant mood or expression
- Lighting — lighting style or reference
- Audio — BGM and dialogue
- Camera type / movement / description — camera specification
- Prompt — generation prompt for this shot
- Duration — shot length in seconds
- Reference image — optional shot-level image

Editing cells
Click any editable cell to enter edit mode. Press Enter to save, Escape to cancel. Use Shift+Enter for multi-line content in prompt or description fields.
Reordering shots
Drag the handle on the left of each row to reorder shots within a scene. Shot IDs update automatically to reflect the new order.
Gallery view
Switch from the table view to the gallery view for a visual overview. Each card shows:
- Shot number and duration
- Reference image (if set)
- Character names appearing in the shot
- Plot description (up to 3 lines)
- Camera info
Alex enters the office and confronts Maya about the missing files.
Maya looks away, unable to meet Alex's gaze.
Alex slams his hand on the desk in frustration.
Alex and Maya walk along the lake in silence before speaking.
Maya smiles warmly, extending her hand.
The gallery is useful for presentation reviews or when you want to scan the whole storyboard at a glance.
Character information in shots
The Characters column in the shot table shows which characters appear in each shot. Hover over the character names to see their appearance details and reference image in a pop-up card.
This makes it easy to check whether character descriptions are consistent across the scenes where they appear.
Exporting
Click the download button in the dialog header to export the full breakdown as a CSV file. The CSV includes both the character table and the shot table, grouped by scene.
Practical tips
- Edit character names and appearances first, before fine-tuning shots. Character changes propagate to all shot references.
- Upload character reference images early. They appear in hover cards throughout the shot table and help verify visual consistency.
- Use duration values to check pacing. Short durations across consecutive shots may indicate a sequence that needs more coverage.
- The gallery view offers a second perspective — sometimes a storyboard pacing issue is easier to spot in cards than in rows.
- CSV export is useful for sharing the breakdown with collaborators who want to review offline or import into scheduling tools.
