Background Cutout

The Background Cutout tool removes the background from an image in a single click, producing a transparent PNG. It works on people, products, animals, and other clearly defined subjects.

When to Use Cutout

• Product photography — isolate items for e-commerce listings
• Portrait editing — swap backgrounds for headshots
• Asset preparation — create transparent overlays for compositing
• Thumbnail creation — extract subjects for clean thumbnails

How to Access

Select an image node and click the Cutout button in the toolbar. The tool processes the image and returns the subject with a transparent background.

How It Works

The AI model identifies foreground subjects by analyzing depth, edges, color contrast, and semantic understanding. It works best when the subject is clearly distinguishable from the background.

Supported Subject Types

• People — full body, half body, and portrait crops
• Products — items with clear silhouettes against plain or moderately complex backgrounds
• Animals — works well with most animal shapes
• Vehicles and objects — cars, furniture, electronics

Tips for Best Results

• Use a contrasting background for cleaner edges
• Avoid subjects that blend into the background
• Well-lit photos produce sharper cutout edges
• Fine details like hair or fur may need manual refinement
• If the result has rough edges, try a different source image with better contrast

Limitations

• Very complex subjects (trees, transparent objects, intricate jewelry) may have imperfect edges
• Subjects with fine hair against similar-colored backgrounds may lose detail
• Group shots with overlapping subjects may not separate cleanly
• For these cases, use the Inpaint tool to manually refine the mask
